Explore six letters at a time

Six-letter words sit in a useful middle ground: long enough to carry a precise idea, short enough to fit a compact crossword entry or a crowded tile board. GARDEN, BRIDGE, SILVER and POCKET are familiar examples. In this collection, the alphabet bar moves you through the list without opening dozens of separate pages.

Start with a letter you recognize, then scan the word shapes. A list can be more useful than a solver when you do not yet have a definite clue. Open a word to inspect its letters, its base tile score and a definition when one is available. The everyday-word filter gives you a smaller editorial selection; the full dictionary also includes older, technical and less familiar entries.

Combine a starting and ending letter without leaving the collection. Choose A on the alphabet bar and E under Ending with to find words such as ADMIRE, ADVICE, ALPINE and ASPIRE. Clear either filter to broaden the results. Your selections can be shared as one link, without creating a separate page for every letter combination.

One extra letter changes the search

Adding a sixth position increases the number of possible arrangements, but it also makes suffixes easier to spot. The letters ER, ED or ING may help you recognize an ending, though the dictionary—not a suffix rule—determines which words appear. Do not assume that adding S to any five-letter word creates an accepted six-letter entry.
